Brigáda is temporary or part-time work, often taken by students or those who want extra income alongside their main job. It is usually arranged not through a classic employment contract, but through a dohoda (agreement outside of employment relations).
Typical types of dohôd
- Dohoda o brigádnickej práci študentov — for students.
- Dohoda o vykonaní práce and dohoda o pracovnej činnosti — for others.
Brigáda is convenient because of its flexible schedule, but it offers fewer rights than a full employment contract (for example, regarding vacation or protection upon dismissal). For a student dohoda, there is a monthly income limit below which part of the pension contributions are not paid (odvodová výnimka) — but you should check the amount and conditions, as they change. Certain contributions are still paid from it. Some dohôd have a limit on the average number of hours per week — clarify this in your agreement. Always confirm the terms and payment in writing before starting work.
