Dohoda

Agreement on work outside of an employment contract (side job)

What does “Dohoda” mean in Slovakia?

Dohoda — this is an agreement for work outside of a standard employment contract in Slovakia. It is used for temporary, seasonal, or part-time work when a full employment contract is not needed.

Main types of dohoda

  • DoVP (dohoda o vykonaní práce) — for a single task, with an annual hour limit from one employer.
  • DoPČ (dohoda o pracovnej činnosti) — for regular work with a limited average number of hours per week.
  • DoBPŠ — only for students (brigádnická práca študentov).

The agreement must be in writing. A dohoda usually offers less protection than an employment contract: often there is no paid vacation or the same protection when you are dismissed. It is a trade-off between flexibility and guarantees.

Important. Dohoda — this is not "work without a contract." It is legal and in writing, but it gives fewer guarantees than a pracovná zmluva (employment contract): be careful with vacation, sick leave, and income stability.

Frequently asked questions

How is an agreement different from an employment contract?
The agreement is simpler and more flexible, but with fewer guarantees. With an employment contract, you have vacation, protection when fired, and more stable conditions; an agreement is more often for a side job.
Are contributions paid from an agreement?
It depends on the type of agreement and income. In many cases, certain social and health contributions are paid; student agreements have benefits. Ask your employer or accountant for details.
Can I work on several agreements at the same time?
Usually, yes — with different employers. But each agreement (dohoda) has its own hour limits, and the total workload affects contributions and taxes.
