Questions and answers
What invoice details are mandatory in Slovakia?
For a VAT payer (§ 74 of the VAT Act): supplier and customer details, ICO/DIC/VAT ID, invoice number, issue date, delivery date (dátum dodania), description and quantity, price without VAT, VAT rate and amount, total to pay. The generator has all these fields, including a separate delivery date.
Separately, § 3a of the Commercial Code requires a line about the registry (e.g., 'Zapísaný v Živnostenskom registri OÚ ..., č. ...') — fill in the corresponding field (full list at financnasprava.sk).
I am not a VAT payer — how to issue an invoice?
Turn off the 'VAT payer' switch at the top of the form. Then, the VAT ID field and all VAT breakdown will disappear from the invoice, and the note 'Dodávateľ nie je platiteľom DPH' (Supplier is not a VAT payer) will appear at the bottom. Such a document is regulated by the Accounting Act (zákon o účtovníctve, § 10), not the VAT Act — you cannot show the VAT rate to a non-payer.
What is dátum dodania and how does it differ from the issue date?
Dátum dodania is the date of actual supply of goods or provision of services; the issue date is when you created the document. They often coincide, but not always (e.g., a service is provided at the end of the month, and the invoice is issued at the beginning of the next). For a VAT payer, the dátum dodania determines the tax period, which is why it is a separate mandatory field.
Are a signature and stamp required on the invoice?
No. A Slovak invoice is valid without a signature and stamp — correct mandatory details are sufficient. The generator saves the supplier's details in your browser, so the form will be pre-filled next time. You can save the completed invoice as a PDF using the print button.
Invoice in Slovakia 2026: mandatory details
A correct invoice (faktúra) is not just about the amount and bank details. Slovak law requires a number of mandatory fields, and they differ for VAT payers and non-payers. This generator creates documents according to the requirements; below is what must be included.
Mandatory details (VAT payer)
- Supplier and customer details, ICO, DIC, VAT ID.
- Number, issue date, and **delivery date** (dátum dodania) — a separate field.
- Description, quantity, price without VAT, VAT rate and amount, total to pay.
- Registry line according to § 3a of the Commercial Code (e.g., 'Zapísaný v Živnostenskom registri OÚ ...').
Full list — § 74 of the VAT Act (financnasprava.sk). Signature and stamp are not mandatory.
If you are not a VAT payer
Turn off the 'VAT payer' switch — the VAT ID and all VAT breakdown will disappear from the invoice, and 'Dodávateľ nie je platiteľom DPH' will appear at the bottom. Such a document is regulated by the Accounting Act (zákon o účtovníctve, § 10), not the VAT Act.
E-invoice: what will change from 2027
From January 1, 2027, electronic invoices will be mandatory for domestic B2B transactions between VAT payers (Act 385/2025). A sole trader (živnostník) who is not a VAT payer is not yet obliged to issue e-invoices, but must be able to receive them.
