Výpovedná doba

Notice period for dismissal

What does “Výpovedná doba” mean in Slovakia?

Výpovedná doba (notice period) is the time between submitting a resignation letter (výpoveď) and your last day of work. It is usually at least one month and gets longer with more years of service. This period applies to both the employee and the employer.

During this time, you continue to receive your salary and both sides must follow their duties. If you are being dismissed, you might also be entitled to severance pay (odstupné) based on your employment contract. You can find more details in the Labour Code (Zákonník práce) and on [employment.gov.sk](https://www.employment.gov.sk).

Important. You cannot just not come to work tomorrow. If you have an employment contract, you must work your notice period or agree on a termination agreement.
