Pracovná zmluva is an employment contract between an employee and an employer in Slovakia. It is regulated by the Labor Code (Zákonník práce) and must be made in writing in two copies.
What the contract must include
- Druh práce — the type of work and a short description of it.
- Miesto výkonu práce — the place where the work will be done.
- Deň nástupu do práce — the date you start working.
- Mzdové podmienky — the amount and conditions of payment.
The contract often includes a skúšobná doba (probationary period), during which both parties can quickly end the employment. The contract can be for a fixed term (doba určitá) or an indefinite term (doba neurčitá). Ending the contract after the probationary period usually requires a notice period — výpovedná doba.
