Travelling between Ukraine and Slovakia
Buses from Slovakia to Ukraine run daily – from Košice, Prešov, Bratislava, and five other cities, as well as from neighboring Vienna. We do not publish schedules and 'from' prices: they change daily, and an error here costs a real trip. Instead, for each route, we show a dated range of prices and durations that we saw from two independent sellers, and provide links to check your specific date.
Among the offers, there are both direct trips and trips with a transfer – sellers show them in the same list. Therefore, for some routes, the duration range is wide: these are two different types of trips, not an error. Travel time also always depends on the border queue, and it is impossible to predict it in advance. Before traveling, check official waiting maps, and the exact stop, time, and ticket conditions – with the seller.
Frequently asked questions about the journey
How to get from Slovakia to Ukraine?+
The main way is by international bus. We have gathered routes from Košice, Prešov, Bratislava, Žilina, Trnava, Nitra, Poprad, and Banská Bystrica, as well as from Vienna, which is closer for some readers than Slovak cities. On the page for each route, we show a dated range of prices and durations confirmed by stops, and two links to check your specific date.
Are all these trips direct?+
No, and it is impossible to check this in advance: sellers show both direct trips and trips with a transfer in the same list, without separating them. This is why for some routes, the duration between the two sellers differs by almost half – this is not an error, but two different types of offers. Whether there will be a transfer on your trip is only visible when selecting a specific date with the seller.
Why don't you show the schedule and exact price?+
Because they change daily, and a mistake here costs a person their trip. We only show what we saw from two independent sellers on specific dates, and we always sign when exactly. The seller will show the current time and price for your date.
Can I return to Slovakia after a trip to Ukraine?+
A short trip itself should not terminate temporary protection, but the right of re-entry depends on your valid documents. If you only have a paper confirmation, clarify re-entry with the Slovak authorities before leaving. A different rule applies to flights from Vienna: the conditions are determined by the country that issued your document, not by Austria.
How long do I have to wait at the border?+
There is no exact answer in advance: the queue changes every hour and depends on the day, the border crossing point, and the direction. Check the official waiting maps before leaving — links are collected below on this page.
