Energy statement — this is an annual recalculation where your advance payments (preddavky, zálohy) for electricity, gas, water, and heating are compared with what you actually used during the year. The result can be one of two types.
- Doplatok — you paid too little, and you need to pay more.
- Preplatok — you paid too much, and you will get money back.
For an apartment in an apartment building, the recalculation is usually prepared by the správca (management company) or SVB (homeowners' association), and for separate contracts, by the suppliers (for example, ZSE, SPP, the water company). The document usually arrives in the first half of the year for the previous year.
Carefully check the meter readings in the statement. If the numbers do not match or the additional payment seems too high, you have the right to file a complaint (reklamácia) within the period specified in the document. Keep all vyúčtovania (statements) and payment receipts — they will be useful when you move, change suppliers, or if there is a dispute about debt. If you are a tenant, agree in advance with the owner in writing who will cover the final doplatok (additional payment).
