Práca načierno (working "under the table") is illegal work without an employment contract and without registration with state authorities. For such work, no insurance is paid, and the employee has no legal protection. This is forbidden by law for both the employee and the employer.
Why it is dangerous for you
- no health and social insurance — no payments in case of illness, injury, or unemployment;
- the employer may not pay you, and it will be almost impossible to prove anything;
- for a foreigner, this is especially risky — possible fines and problems with your stay (pobyt) in Slovakia.
Even if they offer more "in cash," you lose protection, work history, and years that could count towards your pension. Insist on a written contract before your first working day — verbal promises have no legal power. Legal work is not just a salary, but also sick pay, accident insurance, and peace of mind about your status in the country.
