Vysvedčenie (school report) is an official school document with grades that a student receives at the end of a school period. In Slovakia, it is issued twice a year: for the first semester (usually at the end of January) and for the entire school year (in June).
Why it is needed
- Transfer to another school — the new school needs to see your grades.
- Admission to secondary school — the report card for the 9th grade is especially important because its grades are considered during admission.
- Recognition of studies — the document is needed for nostrification or continuing education.
Grades are given on a scale from 1 (best) to 5 (unsatisfactory) — this is the opposite of the usual Ukrainian system. In younger grades, some schools use verbal grading instead of numbers. Keep the originals: an official translation is often required for official procedures, and it is difficult to restore a lost document. A copy is usually enough for admission applications, but it is worth keeping the original handy.
