Splnomocnenie (power of attorney, also plná moc) is a document where you give another person the right to act for you: to submit applications, receive documents, represent you at institutions, banks, or courts.
What to consider
- For official matters, institutions usually require your signature on the power of attorney to be notarized (osvedčený podpis).
- Clearly write exactly which actions you allow and for what period.
- For some transactions (e.g., with real estate), a stricter notarial form is needed.
A power of attorney can be for a single use (for one action) or more general. Do not give overly broad powers without need – this is risky. You can get the signature certified by a notary, and often at the registry office (matrika) or at the post office. If you are abroad and cannot come in person, a power of attorney is often arranged through the consulate. Keep a copy of the signed power of attorney for yourself, and clearly explain its validity period to the other party.
