The process of buying, selling, and re-registering a car in Slovakia, which used to mean waking up early and waiting for hours at customer centers, is now officially moving to a digital format. The Minister of Investments, Regional Development, and Informatization of the Slovak Republic, Samuel Vlčan, announced the launch of this new, convenient system. According to him, you can now re-register a vehicle through the single state portal slovensko.sk.

The main good news for car owners is the financial benefit. If you apply to change a car's owner electronically, the state administrative fee is automatically reduced by 50%.

To use this service and complete everything in a few clicks, you need to meet a key technical requirement. The portal requires both parties in the deal to participate. Both the seller and the buyer must have:

  • A new type of electronic ID card (an ID card with an activated chip or NFC function).

  • An activated and valid electronic signature.

The updated functionality of the state portal has effectively become a universal driver's account. Directly within the system, users can:

  • Create and sign a purchase agreement.

  • Issue an official power of attorney (a new system feature).

  • Check the complete history of the vehicle.

  • Monitor the status of mandatory civil liability insurance (PZP).

Although the system is currently being rolled out and will not be available for 100% of specific registration cases, the basic and most common market for buying and selling used cars has already received long-awaited relief.
