Notár (notary) is a state-appointed official whom Ukrainians often turn to: to certify copies and signatures, to draw up contracts, statements, and in inheritance matters. A notary gives documents legal weight.

For regular services (copy, signature), you can go to any notary. However, in inheritance matters, the court appoints a specific notary — you cannot choose one yourself. Notary fees are regulated by the official notary tariff, so prices are roughly the same. Call ahead to ask which documents to bring so you can get everything done in one visit. There are many notary offices in larger cities, but in smaller towns, they may not work every day, so it is worth making an appointment first. Documents are usually prepared on the same day if everything is in order.
