Skúšobná doba is a trial period at the start of employment. During this time, both the employee and the employer can end the work relationship quickly and without giving a reason.
How it works
- The length is usually up to 3 months (it can be longer for management positions).
- The condition must be written in the employment contract. If it is not written, it is not valid.
- During the trial period, you can leave without following the standard notice period.
Ending employment during the skúšobná doba is done in writing (skončenie v skúšobnej dobe). Usually, you must give it to the other party in advance, typically a few days before. You can only agree to a trial period at the beginning of the job. It cannot be extended or added later, unless it is extended by days when you did not work (for example, because of illness). There is extra protection for pregnant women and some other employees. Always check your contract for the exact conditions.
