Výpis z registra trestov is an extract from the criminal register. It is an official certificate showing if a person has any unexpunged criminal convictions. In Slovakia, it is issued by the General Prosecutor's Office.
Where to get it
- At any post office with an Integrované obslužné miesto (IOM) (Integrated Service Point).
- At client centers (klientske centrum).
- Electronically through the slovensko.sk portal, if you have an electronic ID.
You need an identification document; there is a small fee for issuing it. Distinguish between a výpis (for you and your employer, shows only unexpunged convictions) and an odpis (complete, only for government authorities). For work and most procedures, they ask for a výpis. Many institutions consider the certificate valid for about three months – check the requirement of the specific organization. If you lived abroad, for some purposes, they might also ask for a certificate of good conduct from your country of origin. In this case, the Ukrainian document will most likely need to be officially translated and certified.
