Tax bonus is a tax relief for a child that directly reduces the income tax amount for working parents. It is essentially support for families with children: the state lets you keep a part of your tax.
Main conditions
- The child lives with you in the same household.
- You have taxable income from work or business (SZČO - self-employed person).
- The bonus is given up to a certain age of the child, and for students – for longer, if they are studying.
The amount of the bonus depends on the child's age and your income, and it changes from time to time, so it is worth checking the current amounts every year. The bonus can be received monthly through your employer or all at once for the whole year in your tax return.
Do not confuse the tax bonus with prídavok na dieťa (child allowance) – this is a separate monthly state benefit for a child, paid by the labor office (úrad práce) regardless of tax and whether you are officially working.
