Prídavok na dieťa

child benefit (monthly payment for each child)

What does “Prídavok na dieťa” mean in Slovakia?

Child allowance is a monthly payment for a child that the state gives for each dependent child. The Office of Labor, Social Affairs and Family (ÚPSVaR) pays it. Unlike some other payments, it does not depend on the family's income.

The allowance is paid from the child's birth, usually until they are preparing for their future profession – meaning they are studying (most often until they finish their studies, around age 25).

What you should know

  • The payment is for each child separately.
  • Usually, one of the parents receives it.
  • When the child gets older, you need to confirm their studies with a certificate from the school or university (potvrdenie o návšteve školy).

You apply for the allowance at the Office of Labor, Social Affairs and Family (ÚPSVaR). Usually, it is enough to apply once, and then the payment is made every month. Later, when the child is a student, the certificate of study needs to be updated.

Important. When a child gets older and continues their studies, submit a school attendance certificate to the ÚPSVaR (Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family) on time — without it, payments may be stopped.
