Príspevok pri narodení dieťaťa (childbirth allowance) is a one-time state payment that parents receive when a child is born. It is paid by the ÚPSVaR (Office of Labor, Social Affairs and Family).
What is important to know
- this is a one-time payment, not a monthly one — do not confuse it with the rodičovský príspevok (parental allowance);
- the amount is usually higher for the first children, and then it is smaller;
- you must apply for the payment — it does not come automatically.
You submit the application to the ÚPSVaR. Usually, you need the child's birth certificate and proof of residence. The conditions and amount depend on the specific situation and can change, so check the exact amounts on site. The most important thing is not to delay: there is usually a limited time to submit the application after the birth, and if you miss it, you can lose the right to the payment. Before your visit, it is advisable to check the list of required documents in advance.
