MHD (mestská hromadná doprava) means city public transport: buses (autobus), trams (električka), and trolleybuses (trolejbus). Each city has its own transport company: in Bratislava, it is DPB; in Košice, it is DPMK. A ticket usually works for all types of transport with transfers.
Tickets and Passes
- Cestovný lístok is a single-use ticket, usually valid for a certain time (for example, 30 or 60 minutes).
- Predplatný lístok is a pass for a month or longer, good for those who travel every day.
You can buy a ticket from a machine at the stop, at a kiosk (trafika), through the city's mobile app, or by sending an SMS. At night, most daytime routes do not run. Instead, there are separate night lines with special schedules. Important: you must immediately validate (označiť) a paper single-use ticket in the machine inside the vehicle. Otherwise, it is not valid, even if paid for, and a ticket inspector (revizor) will issue a fine.
