Daňový úrad — this is the state tax office in Slovakia where you submit tax returns and handle all tax-related matters. It is the office (institution) itself, not the declaration document.
Daňový úrad offices are part of the Financial Administration (Finančná správa). The office is linked to your place of residence or business registration.
What to do here
- Submit income tax returns (daňové priznanie).
- Register for a tax identification number (DIČ) or VAT number (IČ DPH).
- Handle issues with tax overpayments, underpayments, and refunds.
Many matters can now be handled online through the Finančná správa portal with an electronic signature, so an in-person visit is not always necessary.
If you do go in person, bring an identification document and check the opening hours (úradné hodiny) for your specific office in advance — they are limited and differ in various towns.
