Recept (prescription) is a doctor's order for medicine from a pharmacy (lekáreň). Today in Slovakia, a prescription is almost always electronic — eRecept: the doctor enters it into a system, and it is linked to your insurance record.
How it works
- The doctor writes an eRecept — you often receive an SMS or a printout with a code.
- At the pharmacy, show your insurance card (preukaz poistenca) or the code from the SMS.
- The pharmacist finds the prescription in the system and gives you the medicine.
Insurance may cover part of the cost, and you pay the rest (doplatok); there is often a cheaper, equal alternative, so do not hesitate to ask the pharmacist about it. A prescription is valid for a limited time, and for antibiotics, this period is usually shorter, so do not delay going to the pharmacy for too long.
