Overená kópia (verified copy) is a copy of a document officially confirmed to be the same as the original (this process is called vidimácia). Institutions usually keep the verified copy and return the original to you.
Where to get it
- At a notary (notár).
- At the registry office (matrika) at a city or village office.
- Sometimes at client centers (klientske centrum).
It is important not to confuse verifying a copy (vidimácia) with verifying a signature (legalizácia, osvedčenie podpisu) – these are different services. Payment is usually charged for each page. Some documents cannot be verified this way (for example, identity cards or documents with security features) – then you need a different method. Bring the original document with you, because the copy is checked against it, and count in advance how many copies you will need. Usually, the process is quick – the copy is made and verified on the spot while you wait. If the document has many pages, each page is counted separately, so ask about the total cost in advance.
