Who has the right to work in Slovakia
Ukrainians with temporary protection status (dočasné útočisko, "odídenec") have free access to the Slovak labor market – no separate work permit is needed, and the employer handles the paperwork. This means you can apply for any vacancy in this catalog on par with Slovaks (except for civil service). The main thing is to work legally, under a written contract: "na čierno" (undeclared) work deprives you of salary guarantees, sick pay, and insurance record.
The catalog includes vacancies from all regions of Slovakia – from warehouses and production to gastronomy, construction, care, and IT. Filters will help you quickly find what suits you best: no Slovak language required, with accommodation, with weekly advances or transport, from a direct employer or through an agency. Salaries are listed gross everywhere (before deductions) – just as they are written in the employment contract; how much you will get "on hand" is explained below.
Facts on the page have been verified with official sources – the employment service upsvr.gov.sk, the Ministry of Labor employment.gov.sk, the Social Insurance Agency socpoist.sk, and the IOM Migration Center for Ukrainians mic.iom.sk. Figures that change annually (minimum wage, supplements, contributions) are given as estimates, and we recommend checking the links.
Work in Slovakia for Foreigners 2026
A brief overview of the section: who has the right to work, what are the forms of employment, how much they pay, how to read gross salary, and what to pay attention to in order to avoid fraudsters. Detailed answers are in the frequently asked questions below.
Right to work with temporary protection status
Temporary protection status (dočasné útočisko) gives Ukrainians access to the Slovak labor market without a separate work permit – on par with Slovak citizens, except for civil service. No permit needs to be obtained: the employer only submits a notification of your employment to the labor office (informačná karta) – approximately within 7 working days, free of charge and without a separate application from you. The status is valid until March 4, 2027 (the term is periodically extended – check on minv.sk). The conditions for access to the labor market are explained on mic.iom.sk, and the employer's obligations are on upsvr.gov.sk.
Forms of employment: employment contract, dohoda, or živnosť
There are three ways of employment in vacancies. Employment contract (pracovná zmluva, "TPP") – full employment relationship with maximum rights: paid vacation of 4 weeks or more, sick pay, notice period upon termination, severance pay. Dohoda (agreement outside of employment relationship) – a more flexible form for temporary or part-time work with less protection. Živnosť (a sole-trader licence, similar to a sole proprietorship) – this is no longer employment, but self-employment "na faktúru", where you pay contributions and taxes yourself.
| Form | Social protection | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Employment contract (TPP) | Maximum: vacation, sick pay, severance pay | Stable full-time / part-time work |
| Dohoda / brigáda | Partial; contributions are usually paid, but with fewer rights | Side job, seasonal, temporary employment |
| Živnosť / SZČO | You insure yourself; higher "on hand" income | Self-employment, services, IT, freelance |
⚠️ If an employer offers to register you under a živnosť instead of an employment contract for regular full-time work "for them" – this may be an illegal švarcsystém (sham sole-trader registration instead of employment). You can calculate a sole trader's net income and compare the forms using our calculators: sole trader calculator and "Sole trader vs. s.r.o.". Rules for dohôd and contributions are on socpoist.sk and podnikajte.sk.
Salary 2026: minimum wage, gross, and supplements
In 2026, the minimum monthly wage is 915 € gross (first degree of labor complexity), the hourly rate is approximately 5.259 € for a 40-hour week. "On hand" from the minimum wage is approximately 725–735 € – the rest consists of taxes and employee contributions (social + health, totaling about 14.4% from 2026). Above the basic rate, the law guarantees supplements (mzdové príplatky) – approximately for night work (from +40%), Saturday (+50%), Sunday (+100%), and holidays – so the actual income is often higher than the "bare" salary. Official confirmation of the minimum wage for 2026 is on employment.gov.sk.
Work without Slovak language
Many vacancies – in warehouses, production, cleaning, construction, agriculture – do not require Slovak: Ukrainian or Russian is sufficient there, and coordinators are often bilingual. The "No Slovak language" filter shows exactly these positions – this is the main entry point for those who have just arrived. At the same time, Slovak (or close Czech) opens up better-paid jobs working with people: cashier, waiter, bus driver, care, office. Information on courses and qualification recognition for regulated professions is on mic.iom.sk.
Accommodation, transport, and advances – what to look for
For newcomers, not only money but also living conditions are often crucial. The filters include labels for "Accommodation" (free or paid – clarify how much is deducted from the salary), "Transport to work" (company transport to the factory or warehouse), "Weekly advances" (installment payments), and "Help with documents". Carefully read what exactly is included in the offer: "free accommodation" sometimes means a dormitory for several people. All conditions must be in the contract.
How not to fall for scammers
- Payment for employment is forbidden by law. A legal employer and a licensed agency (ADZ) are NOT allowed to charge you money for job searching, "processing," or "reserving a spot."
- Do not hand over original documents and do not transfer a "deposit" before signing the contract.
- Check the agency: the intermediary must have a ÚPSVaR license and provide conditions equal to those of permanent employees (register at upsvr.gov.sk).
- Demand a written contract before starting work — a verbally agreed salary guarantees nothing.
- Labor law violations can be reported to the Labor Inspectorate ip.gov.sk, and suspicious vacancies can be flagged with the "Report" button.
