Accommodation along with work is a common offer for newcomers: a dormitory or an apartment for several employees, often with company transport.
Accommodation can be free (ubytovanie zdarma) or for a symbolic fee deducted from the salary. In the job listings, these are separate labels — 'Accommodation (free / paid)' and 'Transport to work'. Most of these jobs are in the areas of Senec, Malacky, and Lozorno near Bratislava, and in industrial centers (Trnava, Nitra, Žilina, Košice).

Is accommodation from the employer free or is money deducted for it?+
It can be either way: free accommodation (usually a dormitory near the company), but more often accommodation for a moderate fee, deducted from your salary. This is legal if the amount is stated and agreed upon in writing. The main thing is that the housing fee must not lower your actual income below the guaranteed minimum wage (€915 gross in 2026); the rule is confirmed by employment.gov.sk.
What happens to my accommodation if I quit or get sick?+
Often, accommodation is tied to the job, so when you quit, you must leave the room. Clarify in advance how many days you have to do this and if you will have time to find new accommodation. These conditions must be in a written contract, not just "by word of mouth"; general employee rights and where to turn in case of violations are on ip.gov.sk.
Can they ask for a "processing fee" along with accommodation?+
No. Charging employees for employment is prohibited by law – no matter what it's called ("for a spot", "for processing", "agency deposit"); accommodation for a moderate fee is legal, but a fee for employment itself is a sign of fraud. If an intermediary demands money for getting a job, refuse and check their registration on upsvr.gov.sk.
