Construction Work in Slovakia

General laborer and mason — approximately €1,000–€1,700 gross/month, tiler and electrician — €1,187–€1,900 and higher; concrete workers, carpenters, and drywall installers — from ~€1,000 depending on the trade. For most roles — no: construction crews often consist of Ukrainian- and Russian-speaking workers, and tasks are demonstrated visually. Language becomes more important for foremen or when working with drawings; more vacancies without language requirements are on the page work without Slovak.

For general labor and masonry work, a separate permit is usually not required — safety training (BOZP) is sufficient. However, for regulated trades, documents are needed: for electricians — an osvedčenie (certificate) of electrical qualification (§21–23) — requirements on sites are supervised by the Labor Inspectorate.

An employment contract (TPP) provides full protection: vacation, sick leave, and contributions paid by the employer. Working on živnosť (sole-trader licence) means self-employment — you pay taxes and contributions yourself, but the net amount received can sometimes be higher; a calculator for net income can be found at calculator for sole traders.

If you actually work as a regular employee (one client, their schedule and materials), but are registered as self-employed, this is švarcsystém (hidden replacement of employment relations with self-employment).
