Restrictions await drivers this week: from Friday morning, July 31, to Sunday night, August 2, the railway crossing between Bratislava predmestie and Bratislava-Nové Mesto stations will operate in a limited mode. This was reported by Železnice Slovenskej republiky (ŽSR, the railway infrastructure operator).
Traffic through the crossing will not be completely blocked, but only one lane will be allowed under a temporary road sign. During peak hours in this direction, it is advisable to allow extra time or choose a detour, as the section can be overloaded even without repairs. ŽSR asks drivers to follow the temporary markings and be more careful.
This caution is not accidental. The crossing on Ivanská cesta, considered one of the most dangerous in Slovakia, is located in this section: since 2012, almost twenty fatal accidents have occurred here. The city has already announced measures to improve safety, including widening the road and installing traffic lights.
The Bratislava predmestie — Nové Mesto section has generally been a "favorite" of repair crews lately. In December 2024, ŽSR completed a major reconstruction of the neighboring Nové Mesto — ÚNS section for almost 33.5 million euros from EU funds, after which train speeds increased from 30 to 80 km/h. And in June this year, regional trains were canceled here due to repairs of the switch points.
What to do: if your weekend route goes through Nové Mesto, check traffic before you leave and, if necessary, drive through Galvaniho or Rožňavská, as you have had to do during previous closures.
