Apostila (Apostila) is a special stamp that confirms the authenticity of an official document so that it has legal force in another country. It is a simpler alternative to super-legalization, which is valid between countries of the Hague Convention, to which both Ukraine and Slovakia belong.
How it works
- The Apostila is placed in the country that issued the document, not in Slovakia.
- In Ukraine, it is issued by specialized authorities: the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — depending on the type of document.
- After that, the document usually needs to be officially translated into Slovak.
An Apostila is needed for diplomas, certificates, references, etc. At the same time, there is a treaty on legal assistance between Ukraine and Slovakia, according to which some documents may be exempt from legalization — so before paying, you should clarify whether an Apostila is needed in your case at all. Also, remember that the Apostila only certifies the origin of the document and the signature on it, not the correctness of its content, so check the data before submitting.
