About the field
Law is studied at the law faculties of classical universities – Comenius University in Bratislava, P. J. Šafárik University in Košice, as well as in Trnava and Banská Bystrica. The study consists of bachelor's and master's levels.
Law programs are taught mainly in Slovak, as law is tied to national legislation and terminology. Full-time study at state universities is free. After completing a master's degree, the title Mgr. is awarded.
The diploma is recognized in the EU; however, legal practice is closely linked to the specific country's law: separate national requirements apply for working as a lawyer or notary. An applicant from Ukraine will need recognition of their high school diploma and sufficient Slovak language proficiency.
