About the field

Doctors in Slovakia are trained at the medical faculties of classical universities — primarily Comenius University in Bratislava and Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice. The General Medicine program (Všeobecné lekárstvo) lasts six years and concludes with the degree of MUDr.

Study in Slovak at public universities is free. For international students, most medical faculties offer a separate English-language program, General Medicine — it is paid. Admission is competitive: entrance exams in biology and chemistry are required.

A medical diploma from a Slovak university is recognized in the EU. Applicants from Ukraine will need recognition of their high school diploma, and for study in Slovak, sufficient language proficiency; preparatory courses help to improve it before admission.
