Frequently Asked Questions about the University
Is it possible to enroll at Comenius University without knowing Slovak?+
For programs taught in Slovak, foreign applicants must prove their knowledge of Slovak. Comenius University (UK) offers language and professional preparation courses (jazyková a odborná príprava) for foreigners before admission.
An exception is accredited English-language programs (e.g., General Medicine in English at the Faculty of Medicine of UK). Slovak is not required for these, but such programs are fee-based.
Studying in Slovak full-time within the standard length of study is free, even for foreigners. Therefore, knowledge of the language is a key condition for access to a free place.
How much does studying at UK cost for Ukrainians with temporary protection status?+
Full-time study in Slovak within the standard length of study is FREE for all students, including Ukrainians with temporary protection status (Higher Education Act 131/2002).
You only pay for: study in a foreign language (English), study beyond the standard length (e.g., repeating a year), and for parallel study in a second program.
There is no separate reduced fee for submitting an application form specifically for Ukrainians. The standard fee for an e-application form depends on the faculty (e.g., FMFI €15, most humanities faculties ~€40–50).

Do I need to have my Ukrainian certificate nostrified to apply to Comenius University (UK)?+
Yes. A foreign document of secondary education (certificate) requires recognition — uznanie dokladu o vzdelaní. The decision is issued by the Regional School Administration Office (Regionálny úrad školskej správy) at your location; for some faculties, the document is submitted upon enrollment.
The certificate usually needs to be apostilled and officially translated into Slovak. The procedure and the "supplement" form are described on the Ministry of Education portal (uznavanie.minedu.sk).
We recommend starting the recognition process early — before the admission deadlines, because enrollment is not possible without a recognized document.
