Security (SBS) Work in Slovakia
Security (SBS) is hiring to protect shops, malls, warehouses, and factories, but requires a license and confident Slovak — this is not a job for those without the language.
Security (SBS — súkromná bezpečnostná služba) is hiring to protect shops, shopping malls, warehouses, factories, and sites. But this is not a "job without requirements": to work as a security guard, you need a license — a professional qualification certificate (preukaz odbornej spôsobilosti, type S for strážna služba), issued after an exam, and an impeccable reputation (bezúhonnosť). The exam and the job itself, which involves interacting with people, are conducted in Slovak, so this is NOT a job for those without the language.
Salaries are approximately €915–€1,100 gross, mostly with variable shifts (often 12-hour shifts, including nights). Actual income is increased by bonuses for night, weekend, and holiday work, which the law guarantees on top of the base rate. SBS license requirements are set by the Ministry of Interior of Slovakia — see minv.sk; bonus regulations — employment.gov.sk.

Frequently asked questions about work
Do I Need a License to Work as a Security Guard?+
Yes. To work in private security, you need a professional qualification certificate (preukaz odbornej spôsobilosti, type S for strážna služba), issued after an exam before a commission and provided you have an impeccable reputation and are of legal age. The procedure for obtaining it is determined by the Ministry of Interior of Slovakia — minv.sk.
How Much Do Security Guards (SBS) Earn in 2026?+
Approximately €915–€1,100 gross/month for full-time work; since shifts are variable and often at night, actual income is increased by bonuses for night (≥ +40%), Saturday (+50%), Sunday, and holiday work (+100%). Market ranges are on profesia.sk.
Can I Work in Security Without Knowing Slovak?+
Practically no: the SBS license exam is taken in Slovak, and the job itself involves communicating with people, responding to incidents, and keeping records. If you don't know the language yet, simpler options include warehouse and logistics, cleaning, or gastronomy.
