Prijímacie skúšky are entrance exams that students take to be admitted to a secondary school or gymnasium (gymnázium). In everyday speech, they are often called "prijímačky".
How it works
- Application (prihláška) — is submitted in advance through the primary school; the number of schools you can apply to is limited.
- Subjects — usually check Slovak language and mathematics.
- Talent exams — for art and sports schools, these are held separately and earlier.
When selecting students, not only the exam results are considered, but also grades from previous years and participation in olympiads. When a school admits a child, the place must be confirmed — usually by submitting a "zápisný lístok" within a set deadline, otherwise it may be given to someone else. Many schools also consider the results of the national testing "Testovanie 9" in the ninth grade, so prepare for it in advance. The exact dates and rules are announced by the ministry every year, so follow the official schedule.
