If you travel by buses 16, 25, 27, 29, 71, 72, or night bus N5 towards sídlisko Mier (Mier housing estate) — yes, this is about you. Starting Monday, July 21, 2026, the Jakabov palác stop in the direction of Mier has been temporarily canceled due to reconstruction, reports the city carrier DPMK.
The work will last about a month and a half — until the construction is fully completed. Routes 16, 27, 29, and N5 will simply pass this stop. You will have to walk to find the nearest alternatives. Buses 25, 71, and 72 in the direction of Mier will take a detour through Staničné námestie (Station Square), where a temporary stop has been organized for them at the bus station.

What exactly is being repaired
The stop is part of the third phase of the public transport stop modernization project in Košice. The contractor will rebuild the stop "pocket," lay new concrete tiles with tactile elements for the visually impaired on the platform, and install a new stop sign with an information board, benches, and bins.
The third phase covers a total of 13 stops in different parts of the city. The project budget is €2,105,562, and it is mostly funded by European funds. Košice's own co-financing is less than €26,000, writes the city council. This means the city is essentially getting updated transport infrastructure with almost no cost to its budget.
What to do if this is your stop
Add 10-15 minutes to your usual travel time while the work is ongoing. If you travel on routes 16, 27, 29, or N5, check the DPMK app or the carrier's website to find out which stop is now the closest for you. Passengers on routes 25, 71, and 72 should remember the transfer option at Staničné námestie.
The stop in the opposite direction (from Mier to the city center) is operating as usual — the restrictions only apply to one side of the street.
