From July 20 to July 26, 2026, planned power outages will happen in the Košice region. As reported by Košice Dnes, there are fewer works this week than usual. However, residents in the affected areas will still need to adjust their plans due to the temporary interruption in electricity supply.
If you live in Košice or the surrounding areas, work from home, or keep a week's worth of food in your refrigerator, it's best to check the schedule in advance. The power outage could last almost the entire day.
Who is shutting off power and why
The company Východoslovenská distribučná, a.s. (VSD) is responsible for electricity distribution in the Košice region. They also plan and carry out the power outages.
The reason is simple: reconstruction, modernization, and maintenance of high-voltage and low-voltage power lines. This is not an accident or an economy measure. Without these outages, the network would not remain stable and safe in the future.
Where and when the power will be shut off
Most planned works take place during the workday, usually from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM, but the exact time depends on the complexity of the work.
A specific example this week: on Thursday, July 23, 2026, the power outage will affect the Košice-Sever (Košice-North) district. There will be no electricity from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, which is almost 12 hours straight.

There are several ways, and all are free:
- Interactive map. Current planned and emergency power outages can be seen on the website vypadokelektriny.sk. There is a map showing all known electricity supply problems in the region reported by VSD.
- SMS or e-mail notifications. Through the eKomunikácia service on the eVSD portal, you can sign up for free notifications about outages at your specific connection point. This is convenient if you don't want to check the website manually every time.
- Local authorities. VSD informs municipalities, which then post announcements on notice boards or broadcast them on local radio. Business clients receive letters.

Practical advice for days with power outages: charge your phones and power banks the evening before, do not open the refrigerator unnecessarily (it keeps cold for several hours), and if you work on a laptop, arrange for an alternative place with internet access and an electrical outlet.
