“Although formally this is a third-class road, in reality it serves as an important access route. Traffic intensity here, according to the latest measurements, is over 13 thousand vehicles per day,” said the head of the Bratislavský samosprávny kraj (Bratislava Self-Governing Region) Juraj Droba, quoted by Obecné noviny. This concerns the M7368 bridge on road III/1082 over the Šúrsky kanál (Šúrsky canal). Residents of Chorvátsky Grob and neighboring villages use it daily to get to work in Bratislava and to the D4 highway.
The bridge is in critical condition. Technical diagnostics revealed damaged road surface, deep corrosion of supports and railings, cracks, delaminated concrete, and exposed rusty reinforcement. Local repairs no longer help, so the client, Bratislavský samosprávny kraj (Bratislava Self-Governing Region) through Správa ciest BSK (BSK Road Administration), decided to completely rebuild the bridge, writes Pravda.
How this will affect drivers
The main thing for those who use this route: the bridge will not be repaired lane by lane. The new structure will be monolithic, with concrete poured in one stage, so traffic will be completely closed. Preparatory work, including dismantling water supply networks, will start in autumn 2026 and will not require full closure yet. Total traffic stoppage is expected in early November 2026 or spring 2027. The exact date will be announced by authorities depending on the progress of work and permits.
Detour routes have not yet been published. The Bratislavský samosprávny kraj (Bratislava Self-Governing Region) promises to inform about them in advance before the closure. If you regularly travel this direction, plan alternative routes through detour roads in advance: 13 thousand cars per day will need to be redirected somewhere. What the new bridge will be like
The old structure will be almost completely demolished: the road surface, supporting elements, railings, and bridge supports will be removed. Only suitable parts of existing pylons will be left and repaired. Instead of the old bridge, a solid monolithic reinforced concrete slab with three spans will appear.
- Length: 42.9 meters (supporting structure — 35.4 m).
- Roadway width: expansion from the current ~6 meters to 7.5 meters.
- Equipment: service sidewalks on both sides, steel H2 level guardrails, new waterproofing and drainage system.
The cost of the work, according to the tender announced in March 2026, is 1,171,201.88 euros.
The reconstruction will not affect cyclists
The popular Jurava bike trail, which runs under the bridge along the canal, will remain open. Passage under the bridge will be preserved, and the space under it will be additionally reinforced. So if you rode this route on weekends, you won’t need to change your plans.
