Yesterday afternoon, July 22, 2026, a traffic accident happened in the Old Town of Košice, which blocked traffic for some time. Two cars collided, one of which flew onto a construction site where a bus stop is being repaired. A child was injured in the accident and was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Details of the Event
The accident happened in the center of Košice, near Jakabov Palác (Jakab's Palace). According to the police, the driver of a Hyundai car seemed to get confused on the road. In this section, the road was narrowed to one lane due to repairs, and the driver noticed the change too late. When he tried to switch from the right lane to the left, he collided with a BMW car that was already driving in the left lane. The impact threw one of the cars off the road and into a dug-up trench at the site of the future MHD (public transport) bus stop.
Consequences for Those Involved and Traffic Flow
There were a total of four people in both cars, including a child. A 10-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for examination. The other three adults were not injured. All services arrived quickly: firefighters, police, and ambulance. Before the medical staff arrived, firefighters provided first aid to the child and secured the accident scene.
The accident complicated traffic in this part of the city. Drivers had to wait in traffic jams and drive around the accident scene as directed by police officers. Both drivers were tested for alcohol – both were sober. The police are now investigating the details of the accident and which driver is more at fault for the collision.
