Residents of the Košice region should prepare for temporary inconveniences: from Monday, July 27, to Friday, July 31, many towns and villages in the region will have planned power outages. This is because of necessary work on the distribution system equipment, which is being done by the company Východoslovenská distribučná spoločnosť (VSD).
During these outages, radio, television, and internet will not work. So, we advise you to plan your time in advance and perhaps go for a walk or a trip.
Where and When to Expect Outages?
The outages will affect different districts of Košice, Michalovce, Spišská Nová Ves, and Rakovec nad Ondavou. Here is the detailed schedule:
Monday, July 27
- Košice – West: From 07:40 to 17:00, 172 customers on Gudernova, Markušova, and Šafárikova trieda streets will be without power. From 08:00 to 16:30, one customer on Pražská street will also be without electricity.
- Michalovce: From 07:30 to 16:30, the outage will affect 29 customers on Kapitána Nálepku street.
Tuesday, July 28
- Košice – West: From 07:00 to 16:30, 89 customers on Idanská street and Moldavská cesta will be without electricity.
- Michalovce: From 07:30 to 16:30, outages will occur on Jarná, Letná, and Topolianska streets (177 customers). From 07:40 to 16:00, 62 customers on Fraňa Kráľa, P.I. Čjakovského, and Pri sýpke streets will have no power.
- Rakovec nad Ondavou: From 11:00 to 14:00, two customers will be without electricity.
Wednesday, July 29
- Košice – South: From 07:30 to 18:00, six customers on Južná trieda and Rastislavova ulica will be without power.
- Košice – West: From 08:00 to 16:50, 57 customers on Pražská street will face an outage.
Thursday, July 30
- Košice – South: From 07:30 to 18:00, six customers on Južná trieda and Rastislavova ulica will again be without electricity.
- Košice – West: From 08:00 to 17:00, one customer on Orgovánova ulica will be disconnected.
- Spišská Nová Ves: From 13:30 to 14:30, 252 customers on Banícka, ČSL armády, Fraňa Kráľa, I. Krasku, J. Hanulu, Konrádova, and Zimná streets will be without electricity.
Friday, July 31
- Košice – West: From 08:00 to 17:00, 19 customers on Orgovánova ulica will be without power.
- Spišská Nová Ves: From 08:00 to 13:30, 61 customers in the areas Bez Ulice 3, Gemerská, Liptovská, Muráňska, Pieninská, Považská, and Turčianska will face an outage.
How to Prepare for Outages?
During long power outages, it is important to take steps to minimize product loss and ensure comfort for all members of your family.
- Food Storage: Keep your refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible. An unopened refrigerator will keep food cold for about 4 hours. A full freezer will maintain its temperature for about 48 hours (24 hours if it is half full) if the doors remain closed.
- Electronics: Turn off and unplug all unnecessary electrical equipment, including sensitive electronics. This will protect devices from power surges that can occur when electricity is restored.
- Lighting and Communication: Prepare flashlights and extra batteries. A battery-powered or hand-crank radio is an important source of official government information if mobile networks fail.
- Water and Food: Stock up on non-perishable food and water (one gallon per person per day).
- Important Documents: Make paper copies of important documents, such as medical records and prescriptions.
