Do you live in the Sídlisko Ťahanovce area of Košice and use public transport? Get ready for changes: starting Monday, July 22, nine bus lines will run differently due to major road repairs on Americká trieda. We explain what to expect and how to plan your trips.
What, Where, and When Will Change?
The transport company of Košice (DPMK) announced the start of construction work on one of the key roads in the Sídlisko Ťahanovce area – Americká trieda. Because of this, from 4:30 AM on Monday, July 22, 2026, traffic will be completely closed on the section from the intersection with Hanojská street to the intersection with Ázijská trieda.
The repairs will last for about two months. This will significantly affect public transport logistics in this densely populated area. Passengers should familiarize themselves with the new routes in advance to avoid inconvenience.
Which Routes Are Affected?
The changes will affect nine popular routes, which can be divided into three groups: those that will take a detour, those that will be shortened, and temporary solutions for connections.
Routes with Changed Paths
These buses will continue to run, but they will bypass the closed section using other streets.
- Lines 10, 27, 36, 56, and night line N1 in both directions will be rerouted to a detour route via Magnezitárska and Ťahanovská streets.
Routes That Will Be Shortened
For these lines, the final stop will be a temporary one, requiring passengers to change buses.
- Lines 18, 25, 51, 54, and night line N4 will be shortened. Their final stop will be a temporarily created stop called Aténska, located on Americká trieda before the intersection with Hanojská.
Temporary Stops and New Shuttle Bus X
To ensure transport connections within the area, DPMK is introducing several temporary solutions.
- Shuttle bus X is being introduced, which will run between the temporary stop Aténska and the Madridská stop. It will provide transportation for passengers to/from the shortened routes.
- The Berlínska, Hanojská, and Madridská stops will be temporarily removed from service by the main lines. You can only reach them using shuttle bus X.
- The Budapeštianska stop will be moved to Americká trieda before the intersection with Budapeštianska.
How Should Passengers Prepare for the Changes?
To minimize inconvenience caused by the repairs, we recommend following a few simple tips:
- Plan your trip in advance. Before leaving home, check the current timetable and routes. It is best to do this through the official DPMK resources.
- Allow extra time. Changing from a main route to shuttle bus X and driving via a detour may increase your total travel time, especially during rush hour.
- Stay updated. Information about the progress of the work and possible changes to the schedule will be available on the official DPMK website and at public transport stops.
These temporary changes are a necessary step to modernize the city's road infrastructure.
