Easter is a time for family gatherings, but preparing for the holidays requires planning your shopping in advance. This year, the opening hours of retail chains have changed due to new laws that started at the end of 2025. Now, retail stores are officially allowed to open on Easter Monday, but each chain has decided how to use this option differently.

Tesco

The Tesco chain offers the most flexible schedule for shoppers. Stores will be open as usual until Thursday.

  • Friday (April 3) and Sunday (April 5): all supermarkets, hypermarkets, and gas stations are closed. However, automatic fuel dispensers will be available at gas stations.

  • Saturday (April 4): standard working day.

  • Easter Monday (April 6): all 182 stores in the chain will be open according to their usual schedule. Delivery and pickup services will also be available.

Kaufland

The store decided to extend its opening hours on busy days to reduce queues.

  • Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday: stores will open 30 minutes earlier and close 30 minutes later than usual.

  • Friday and Sunday: days off.

  • Easter Monday (April 6): stores will operate on a reduced schedule – from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Exceptions may include stores in large shopping centers (like Avion in Bratislava), where opening hours depend on the building's management.

Lidl

Lidl has also adjusted its schedule for customer convenience during the pre-holiday period.

  • Thursday and Saturday: open 30 minutes earlier, close 30 minutes later.

  • Friday and Sunday: closed.

  • Easter Monday (April 6): most branches will be open from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. For exact times at specific locations in city centers and train stations, check the Lidl Plus app.

Billa and VIVA BILLA

The chain offers both standard and 24/7 shopping options.

  • Friday and Sunday: Billa supermarkets are closed.

  • Easter Monday (April 6): most stores will operate on Sunday hours.

  • 24/7 option: 65 VIVA BILLA locations at OMV gas stations will be open NONSTOP (24/7) throughout the holidays, including Friday and Sunday. You can buy baked goods, dairy products, and basic groceries there.

COOP Jednota

This chain focuses on innovative self-service formats.

  • Traditional stores: will be closed on Friday, Sunday, and Monday (except for a few locations in tourist areas of Liptovský Mikuláš and Žilina).

  • Automated 24/7 stores: currently, there are 30 automated stores operating in Slovakia, which will be open 24/7 even during the peak of the holidays. They are located in cities such as Nitra, Prešov, Šaľa, Senica, Trnava, Prievidza, and others. Entry to these stores usually requires a special card or a mobile app.

Although most chains will be open on Monday, Saturday (April 4) remains the only day when all stores operate fully. Therefore, it is best to complete your main shopping then.
