The State Veterinary and Food Administration of Slovakia (ŠVPS SR) has recalled two sauces from the market in the last two weeks. These sauces are often bought for Asian dishes and marinades: a soy sauce made in the Czech Republic and a spicy Tabasco Sriracha from the USA. Laboratories found allergens in both that are not listed on the label, which is a direct risk for people with allergies.
For most customers, these sauces do not pose a danger. But if you or your children have an allergy to peanuts or lupin beans, you should check your kitchen cabinets now.
Soy sauce with hidden lupin
ŠVPS SR published the warning about the soy sauce on July 21, 2026. The violation was found during a planned inspection at Tempo Supermarket 406 on Chrenovská street in Nitra.
Laboratory analysis showed the presence of lupin proteins at a concentration of 5.05 mg/kg. Lupin is one of the official allergens that a manufacturer must list on the label, but it was not mentioned in the ingredients at all.
You can identify the problematic batch by:
- bottle volume — 185 ml;
- batch number — L3552750;
- expiration date — until July 31, 2028.
The sauce comes from the Czech Republic, the supplier is Pěkný-Unimex s.r.o. A total of 7,296 bottles were imported to Slovakia: 348 of them were disposed of, and the remaining 6,948 units were distributed to distributors. Among the recipients, as reported by Interez.sk, were the large chains Tesco and Billa, as well as several smaller wholesalers.
Tabasco Sriracha with peanuts
The second warning concerns the spicy sauce McIlhenny Co. Tabasco Sriracha Sauce. Inspectors found it during an inspection at the Billa store on Saratovská street in Bratislava. ŠVPS SR released the information on July 10, 2026.
In the sauce with red chili and garlic, with a volume of 256 ml, batch number LOT 062025 (expiration date until December 20, 2026), ELISA testing confirmed the presence of peanuts. It was also not listed on the label, even though peanuts are one of the most dangerous allergens and can cause anaphylactic shock.
The distributor in Slovakia is SNICO s.r.o. It received 336 boxes, or 4,032 bottles weighing a total of 1,209.6 kg, from the Austrian supplier Mautner Markhof Feinkost GmbH and delivered them to stores across the country. After the inspectors intervened, 1,313 units were removed from sale.
What to do if the sauce is already at home
Check the label: the batch number and expiration date are usually printed on the bottle or cap. If the details match the ones above:
- people with lupin or peanut allergies should not consume the sauce;
- you can return the product to the store where you bought it — inspectors have required sellers to accept returns;
- if you do not have allergies, the sauce does not pose a danger, as the problem is only with the undeclared ingredients.
The administration publishes current lists of dangerous products on its website: details about soy sauce and Tabasco Sriracha are available on the ŠVPS SR pages. All new recall cases are also posted there, so it is worth checking from time to time for your own safety.
