How the route should run
The first stage in Slovakia is planned to run from the Hungarian border in Rusovce, through Petržalka and the Prístavný Bridge, to the main railway station in Bratislava. An important element of the project will be a new station, Bratislava – Západ, in Stupava, which will perform a technical and operational function for trains. The main station in the capital is planned to be kept.
The second stage involves extending the high-speed line towards the Czech Republic, as well as a connection to Vienna via Marchegg. Thus, Slovakia could become a key transit link in the region.
How much it will cost and when to expect results
The estimated cost of the project is 3.3 billion euros, of which about 360 million will go only to preparatory work and land acquisition. Construction could begin in a few years, but the full completion of the project is not expected before 2046.
Experts warn that the implementation will depend on funding and will most likely happen in stages. At the same time, if successful, the project could significantly change the transport map of Slovakia and all of Central Europe.
