The lunch break had not started yet, but the workers were already standing outside. On Tuesday, July 21, a little after 11:00 AM, technological equipment caught fire in the production hall of one of the companies in the industrial park in the village of Kechnec (Košice-okolie district).

Everyone managed to evacuate: 108 employees were led out of the facility before the firefighters arrived. But there were victims – 19 people inhaled combustion products. Rescuers provided them with first aid on the spot and handed them over to medics, reports Pravda, citing the spokesperson for the regional fire and rescue service directorate in Košice, Jozef Balint.

The workers themselves started fighting the fire with powder extinguishers before the services arrived. Firefighters from the Čaňa station extinguished hidden sources of fire and ventilated the premises, writes TASR.

The cause of the fire and the amount of damage are currently being determined. If you work at one of the plants in the Kechnec industrial zone or nearby, remember where the fire extinguishers are in your workshop and where the emergency exit leads. This time, the staff's discipline most likely saved the situation from a much worse scenario.
