From June 14, 2026, the state railway carrier ZSSK has changed departure times for several international routes. For those traveling between Slovakia and Zakarpattia, four ZAKARPATIA trains on the Košice-Mukachevo and Košice-Chop routes have changed.
New ZAKARPATIA Schedule
ZSSK is updating travel times for some domestic and international connections, including routes important for travel between Slovakia and Ukraine. According to the carrier, the new schedule will allow more time for necessary checks and preparation before trains depart, which should increase the reliability of the service.
Here is the current schedule for the changed routes:
R 960 ZAKARPATIA — Košice 05:46 → Čierna nad Tisou 07:10/07:12 → Mukačevo 10:00 (previously the train arrived in Mukachevo at 10:05).
R 962 ZAKARPATIA — Košice 10:46 → Čierna nad Tisou 12:13/12:15 → Mukačevo 16:07 (previously the stop at Čierna nad Tisou station lasted from 12:13 to 12:44).
R 964 ZAKARPATIA — Bratislava hl. st. 11:27 → Košice 17:46 → Čop 20:31 (previously the train arrived in Chop at 20:41).
R 965 ZAKARPATIA — Mukačevo 18:57 → Čierna nad Tisou 20:14/21:28 → Košice 22:49 (previously the train departed from Mukachevo at 19:10, and the stop at Čierna nad Tisou lasted from 20:24 to 21:28).
Other R 96x trains have not changed.
Tickets and Boarding
You can buy a ticket for the Mukachevo-Košice route online, with prices starting from 12 euros. On the Slovak side, tickets are available through the official ZSSK website or the IDeme vlakom app. From the Ukrainian side, use the Ukrzaliznytsia website or app.
Attention: the departure platform in Mukachevo is "Zakhidna" (Western), about a 10-minute walk from the main station. In Košice, the train arrives at the main station, where it is easy to transfer to other directions.
If you are planning a trip across the border in the coming weeks, check the current schedule on zssk.sk or in the app, as ZAKARPATIA routes have been temporarily canceled in past years due to railway infrastructure repairs in Ukraine.
What Else Will Change in the Schedule from June 14
The updates are not only for the Ukrainian direction. ZSSK has also announced a new morning service between Bratislava and Prague, additional overnight capacity on the ZEMPLÍN route (Bratislava-Humenné), and the return of the Beliansky Express to Muszyna, Poland.
In the summer, ZSSK will add two extra sleeping cars to the ZEMPLÍN night trains (680/681). Specifically, the service from Humenné at 21:51 to Bratislava at 05:40 will be strengthened from June 28 to September 14, and the return service from Bratislava at 22:55 will be strengthened from June 29 to September 15. This is convenient if you plan to travel to Košice with a transfer: you can travel to Bratislava by night train and be there in the morning.
