A 39-year-old Slovak man was detained in Austria. He is suspected of attempting to blackmail a well-known manufacturer and intentionally contaminating products with rat poison. According to the investigation, the detained man previously worked at the HiPP company. His actions might have been revenge for layoffs at the production plant last year.
A total of five poisoned jars were found, not only in Austria but also in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The prosecutor's office has currently filed a motion to take the suspect into custody while procedural actions are ongoing.
