A fatal accident happened near the Bratislava reservoir Čunovo: a car hit a 51-year-old cyclist. The driver was a minor from Ireland, who fled the scene of the accident and did not help the victim.
Police started searching for the driver on Tuesday, July 21, 2026. As reported by Silvia Šimková, spokesperson for the Bratislava Regional Police, his identity was quickly established and he was detained.
Details of the tragedy
Miroslava, the manager of the hotel Divoká voda, said that young people from Ireland from a nearby campsite often drove powerful cars at high speeds. The woman did not see the accident itself, but she drove past the scene of the tragedy shortly after it happened.
The 51-year-old cyclist died at the scene. The driver did not give him first aid and fled the scene of the accident.

Gabriela Kovačová, a prosecutor at the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Bratislava, reported that the minor driver has already been charged with failure to provide assistance. After the interrogation, a decision will be made on further steps.
