The Ministry of Health of Slovakia plans to ban the sale of disposable e-cigarettes and most flavored nicotine products starting in 2026. According to the ministry, the goal is to reduce growing addiction among young people.
However, the Ministry of Finance does not support this initiative.
The ministry stated that such a step "will negatively affect the state budget and the business environment" and contradicts current changes to the excise tax law, which already taxes these products.
Electronic cigarettes (vapes) work by heating a liquid with nicotine and flavorings. They are especially popular among young people because they are easy to get and come in many flavors.
The Ministry of Health notes that the ban will apply not only to disposable e-cigarettes but also to other tobacco products with fruit, candy, or dessert flavors, which are especially attractive to children and teenagers.
The Ministry of Health plans to submit the bill to parliament in November.
