Amid an active discussion about the growing brown bear population, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Filip Kuffa, announced: meat from legally hunted bears is now officially allowed for consumption. According to him, organizations with all necessary permits will be able to sell such meat, including to restaurants. The idea, according to Kuffa, is a "return to traditions" and a way to effectively use the meat of problematic animals.
As a reminder, some areas have declared a state of emergency, and the government has approved the hunting of up to 350 bears to protect the population.
The new initiative is causing different reactions: some see it as a practical solution, others as crossing ethical boundaries.
