In the village of Gemerská Poloma (Rožňava district), a police patrol saved the life of a 52-year-old man. He fell from scaffolding while working on his family home, was unconscious, and not breathing.
As the regional police reported, patrol officers Martin Macko and Matúš Leštach were driving by when people on the street stopped them. They saw a man lying on the ground with no signs of life — he had no pulse and was not breathing.
The police officers immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation. An automated external defibrillator (AED) in the patrol car played a key role in the rescue. After one electric shock and continued chest compressions, the man's vital functions returned.
An ambulance soon arrived at the scene. Paramedics stabilized the injured man's condition and took him to the hospital. This case once again shows how important it is for patrol cars to be equipped with defibrillators, which allow for emergency help to be given before doctors arrive.
