Imagine you are not just looking at Van Gogh's "Starry Night," but you are literally inside it: swirls of paint move around you, and stars flash to music. This is the experience offered by a new multisensory exhibition that opened in Bratislava, dedicated to the artist's final, most productive years.
This is not a classic gallery with static paintings in frames. Using monumental 360-degree projections, sound, and light, the organizers have "brought to life" the artist's most famous works. Visitors become part of the canvases created in the French towns of Arles, Saint-Rémy, and Auvers-sur-Oise, where Van Gogh painted his most iconic pieces.
In addition to the visual immersion, the exhibition reveals the little-known story of the woman who made sure the world learned about Van Gogh. This is Johanna van Gogh-Bonger, the wife of the artist's brother, Theo. After the death of both brothers, she was left alone with hundreds of paintings that were not valued at the time. It was her persistence that turned an unrecognized genius into a world legend. The story is told through a free audio guide, presenting events from her perspective.
