The Ministry of Interior of Slovakia has launched an updated booking system for appointments at the alien police departments. Services are now divided into two categories: for people with temporary residence/permanent residence and for those who do not yet have documents. These changes aim to simplify the process and fight illegal trading of appointments.
What exactly has changed?
The update includes a clear division into authorized and unauthorized services, making it easier for different categories of foreigners to access the necessary procedures.
1. Authorized services
For holders of temporary residence or permanent residence with an activated security code BOK, which is stored on the chip of your residence card.
1.1 BOK
The security personal code (BOK) is your personal six-digit code that acts as a key to confirm your identity in online services. Think of it like a password linked to your residence card (temporary or permanent) in Slovakia. It is used when you communicate with government agencies online (for example, to book an appointment at the alien police) or with other people or organizations. The code consists of any six digits you choose yourself, but it is stored on the chip of your card.
This code is your key to online government services, and with it, you can book appointments 60 days in advance, including for changing the purpose of stay (Prechodný pobyt – zmena účelu pobytu), applying for or extending temporary residence, or getting a new card. To book, simply go to the e-services website and enter your BOK.If the code is not yet activated, to get it, come to the police on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday before 7:00 AM to join the walk-in queue. At 7:30 AM, when the police station opens, go to the terminal, press the "Bez termínu" (no appointment) button, then "Informácie" (information), get a queue number, and wait. When your number appears on the screen, go to the correct counter and say you want to activate your BOK. You will be directed to a booth where you will need to enter a 6-digit code (you must remember it!).2. Unauthorized services
Foreigners who do not yet have a residence document and are not registered in the foreigner registry can use unauthorized services. To log into the booking system, they act as before – you need to provide all the information the system asks for: first name, last name, date of birth, phone number, and email address. Appointments for unauthorized services are available 40 days in advance.
3. PIN code and blocking for missed appointments
After booking, the system will issue a PIN code that you must show when you visit. Plan carefully: if you do not show up or cancel your appointment, you will be blocked for 60 days! The new measures are aimed at combating the "buying" of appointments, which was a problem with the old system. The police are already investigating such cases, so authorized services with BOK should reduce fraud.
