On Thursday, July 23, 2026, around 2:00 PM, an explosion occurred in a private house in the village of Čaňa (Košice-okolie district), followed by a fire. All emergency services were immediately called to the scene. According to preliminary data, one person was injured, who was alone in the house at the time of the explosion.
Firefighters and police are currently working at the scene. Ten rescuers with five units of equipment are extinguishing the fire and securing the area. To prevent further explosions, a propane-butane cylinder was removed from the burning house.
Police have cordoned off the scene, are directing traffic, and are not allowing unauthorized persons in. The causes of the explosion and fire are currently being investigated. More detailed information will be provided later.
